A Yukon resident is:
  • a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant who has habitually resided in the Yukon for one year immediately before applying for a hunting licence, or
  • a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant who has lived in the Yukon for 60 days immediately before applying for a hunting licence and has previously lived in the Yukon for one year, or
  • any other person who has habitually resided in the Yukon for three consecutive years immediately before applying for a hunting licence.

BIG GAME SEALS
If you wish to hunt big game, you must first obtain a big game seal for each animal you plan to hunt.

Non Residents Must Be Guided

Non-Resident aliens must be outfitted by a registered Yukon outfitter. Non-resident Canadians must be outfitted by a registered Yukon Outfitter. All nonresidents must also pay trophy fees on big game animals harvested.

As a guided non-resident hunter, your responsibilities include:

  • hunting only if you are directly accompanied by a licensed guide.
  • being aware of relevant wildlife regulations along with a general responsibility to obey your guide regarding hunting activities.
  • Ensuring that all of the edible meat of any moose, caribou, sheep, bison, or goat you harvest is not wasted. Edible meat includes the neck and rib meat, the four quarters down to the lower leg joint, the backstrap and the tenderloin. It does not include the head hide or viscera. Please note thatit is an offense to waste meat.
  • Signing a legal document called an Outfitter Trophy Export Permit (OTE). You should check this form carefully to make sure the information included in the form is accurate, including the kill location, dates and names of your guide.
  • You must carry your hunting license and seals with you at all times while hunting.
  • Ensuring your firearms are checked and sighted in.
  • Disclose any health problems to your outfitter or guide.

Non resident hunters should also be aware of the following:

  • No person may act as a guide without a valid guiding license.
  • All guides must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
  • A separate licensed guide is required for each non resident hunter, and you should anderstand who your guide is.
  • It is unlawful to set out bait for bear hunting.
  • You must be at least 14 years old to be eligible for a Yukon big game hunting license.
  • It is unlawful to hunt with a handgun in Canada.
  • Export permits and/or CITES permits are required before shipping or removing wildlife parts from the Yukon. Permits can be obtained during posted business hours at Renewable Resource offices during weekdays. Note CITES require 24 hour advanced notice.
